The Barrio del Carmen has the privilege of being able to do without the appellative diferenciador. In spite of saying “The Barrio” all the murcianos we know to what we refer.

But the purity of the Barrio del Carmen is not the topic of panocho and large blood sausage, it is an urban purity, of enterprising bourgeoisie, more of churubito that of pereta; it is, finally, the purity of the refined Murcia, which also existed and sometimes it remains forgotten before the propulsion of the esparteña and the zaragüel.

It was in the Barrio del Carmen where our University was born in 1914, remaining until 1935. Two years earlier (1912) there was already a student band. This Tuna has remained until our days and it is known like the “very Glorious and Restless Tuna of District”.

The Tuna of District has had to good name to us “Grand Master” of this one already XIV International Music Festival “Barrio del Carmen”. It is an honor that we accept with respect. We appreciate the distinction, not in vain, we are different the parrandboleros that we initiate our musical way in different university tuna and we still have given to the mustache the smell that the prickly pear suits acquire when parcheas.
